Lund 30002 Genesis Tailgate Seal

I own a 2000 F150. My kids have a band, and needed a weatherproof way to transport equipment. After installing a cap, I realized that the tailgate did not really seal up all that well. I found this item from Lund on Amazon at a great price, so I bought 2 of them.

The material is a soft "open foam" (meaning squishy) design that despite the softness, appears durable. A cross section of this looks like a big lower case "d". The overall height is is about 1 3/16" (29mm) and the round part of the d is about 11/16" (17mm). The center of the "d" is hollow, which allows the seal to collapse and conform to a non-uniform surface.

The adhesive appears to be 3M's "double strength" all weather tape, and is 1/2" (12.7mm) wide. I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra with a Leer Topper. I have to travel quite a few miles on dirt roads to get to my mountain property, and before, the bed and sidewalls of the "box" of my truck would be covered in a very fine dust. I purchased this product after reading the reviews, and it worked exactly as advertised. Installation couldn't be simpler - I rolled it out and cut the pieces to size. The design gives it sufficient width to close off the gaps between the tail gate and the topper, and it compresses quite well filling the gaps. The adhesive has so far worked flawlessly, even in one spot that rubs agains a metal protrusion at the bottom of the tail gate (this compresses when I close the door and springs back out to close the gap). It took me once or twice to realize that I had to close the tailgate a bit harder to get to its fully closed position, but the results have been great - my bed is effectively sealed off and I don't have to wash it out every time.

The Lund Genesis Tailgate Seal was very easy to use on our Honda Ridgeline, and was actually one of the least expensive seals we found for sale on the internet. After it was installed, it conformed to the shape of the tailgate to form a very high quality seal. We would recommend this seal to anyone.
